Family Vacation in St. Augustine, FL
St. Augustine
After an eight hour road trip on Monday, we spent the day getting settled in and checking out Mark and Melissa's (very nice!) subdivision. They have a playground right in the middle, so the children were able to stretch their legs for a little while before supper.
On Tuesday, we ventured to downtown and toured St. Augustine via the Trolley to become familiar with the things to do for the next couple of days. It was interesting to find out how historical this town is! Brian and I had fun putting the who's and when's together throughout the week. After the complete trolley tour, we picked out several places to tackle on foot. The children really enjoyed watching boats and the reconstruction on the Bridge of Lions. Brian and I were trying to take in the different architecture around town and the historical sites - we all had fun!
On Wednesday, Mark took Brian to one of the golf courses there (since they are neighbors to the World Golf Village), and Melissa and I decided to visit the Outlet Malls that are right down from their house! Later that day, we visited to the World Golf Village - it was WOW (it is actually a town in itself with their own grocery store and everything!) They also have an IMAX Theater and since neither me or Brian had ever been to one, we thought that this would be fun! At the time we went, they were showing "Open Season" instead of a documentary, so that worked out great for the children! I took a nap, but Brian, McKaylah and Luke laughed out loud throughout most of the show - we had a blast!
On Thursday, we toured the Old Jail and then went across the Bridge of Lions to visit the Gator Farm, the St. Augustine Lighthouse, and the beach. The jail was interesting. The children were ready to go and do something a little more exciting, but Brian and I wanted to hang around and read all of the information of the walls. Finally, I decided to take funny pics of the children while Brian caught up on the history of this jail. The children enjoyed posing in the stocks and "birdhouse" that they have set up outside.
We also enjoyed the Gator Farm! The children got to pet hold a little live alligator (with it's mouth taped of course) and pet several different reptiles. McKaylah learned what a reptile is and what it means to be cold-blooded. It was an interesting place to visit and see how many different types and sizes that the FL gator has to offer!
To end our great week, we all went to SEA WORLD - YEAH! Mark acted as our tour guide. He made sure we saw the right shows and visited each different animal display. What an incredible day. All week had been great and this was the right way to finish it! The otters, the sea lions, the dolphins, the whales, the manatees are just a few of the animals that we saw up close. The shows were just unexplainabley wonderful! My personal favorite was the dolphins show - they are magnificent animals! The Shamu show was also awesome and very inspiring - BELIEVE! We didn't want to stop and eat or rest because everything was so exciting! Friday was an exhaustively enjoyable day!
November 2006
For our family vacation in 2006, we decided to spend a week at Mark and Melissa's new home in St. Augustine, FL. Brian had never been to FL before, and this gave us a great excuse to spend some time with my big brother!

Then we spend the rest of the day at the breathtaking lighthouse and the beautiful beaches. The sand was clean and the wind was refreshing. Fortunately, Seth was the only one who lost his balance and took a dip in the water. We enjoyed a relaxing walk with the children picking up shells and getting excited about the new sounds.
Thursday evening, Mark and Melissa treated us to a wonderful seafood meal at a restaurant out on a dock. The children fed the fish under the dock while we were eating and watched small boats pass. It was a wonderful evening.

Our week at St. Augustine was phenomenal! Mark and Melissa let us stay with them in their beautiful new home (with all four children - AAUUGH!) and fed us each night (our favorites were the homemade lasagna and the Puerto Rican Rice and Beans!) We are very thankful to them for their hospitality and generosity - I know that our family can be quite a handful! Thanks Mark and Melissa! Fun, fun, fun!
