Young People's Outing
Solid Rock Independent Baptist Church
Frankie's Fun Park
Greenville, SC
October 7th, 2006, we decided to brave a trip to Frankie's with some of the young folks at the church! Although we had been threatened (by some of the young men) with go cart accidents and being taken down in the laser tag gallery, we faced the challenge head on and had a great time!
We started our evening at the go cart track and the competition was invigorating! Although bumping was not permitted, a little friendly rivalry induced several very close calls. We had a couple of rookie drivers that made it fun for everyone (Destiny - pictured to the left in car #8 - was one of them)
and then some boasting professionals (all guys of course) that were determined to finish ahead of the rest of us. Anyway, when it was over - the guys had to brag about who they passed and the girls had to explain our very valid reasons why they were able to get by us.
Then the fun continued at the Putt Putt range. It was interesting to watch each one - in their own particular style - try to get that little ball in that little hole! We were able to split up into three teams and
compete not only on an individual basis, but also on the team level. Chris Ramey (above left) took 1st place by several strokes and turned out to be the champion Putt Putter!
As for the teams, the all guys group took the gold - they were Chris Ramey, his friend David (right), and Beau Proffitt (below right - blue stripe shirt). Although I did not get to witness each players game, I heard the tall tales about one girl loosing her ball in the blue river that intertwined the course, some
awkward positions that some players had to hit their ball from (our team had a member that enjoyed shooting from the bushes -- aka -- Jason Kelly-left), and some possible exaggerations of those almost "hole-in-ones" that were barely missed! The competition was extreme
when we all came down to that 18th hole (I had one stroke on Brian and couldn't even look at his last shot!), but we watched the ball disappear only to challenge each other to a rematch another day!
After that game was over we had time to play a few arcade games (we had to forgo laser tag for lack of time). Several of us gathered around the double air hockey table where we watched the more aggressive competitive personalities appear (esp. Jennifer and Paul) when the puck went flying off of the table hitting strangers. I think some of the others were trying to see how many tickets they could get to trade in for a keepsake!
What a great evening with our young folks! We praise the Lord for the group that He has given us and look forward to sharing many other expeditions with them!
